"Juana B" M Garcia is an "excellent example of agendism, spin and half-truthery"
Posted on October 15, 2006 at 01:43:25 AM by 4 Major C
The Ads against Gene Seaman...
...are excellent examples of agendism, spin and half-truthery.
Purely progoganda...I''m sickened by them more for their blatant ""politicalization"" than the message they wish to give.
The one I have seen...that mentions Delay, neither tells you who to vote for nor who paid for the message (at least plainly visible.) The play on words he gives and allegation he is a ""woman hater"" are taken out of context. They are things a person...any threadster here, might say as a pun.
Gene''s ads seem to build on his accomplishments.
Gene is in a tight spot...to respond negatively is to drop down below his established ""standards."" But not to respond at all is equally damaging.

And what?

While I do not know the intent behind this thread...
Yes, the adds are examples of "excellent examples of agendism, spin and half-truthery."
I take neither side in this debate and hold a great deal of respect for both Juan Garcia and Gene Seaman and, thus, I am an objective observer of the tactics, methods and strats of this campaign.
I have always hated agendism and the foul stench of what "politics" has/is become.
There is also. now, a commercial from the other side connecting Juan Garcia to attorneys and calling him a "Liberal," in a pejorative manner.
Agendism is bad no matter who does it. Let truths come out on the news...and people inform themselves based on presented facts. There is no need to resort to such bias and inuendo where and when it is of a questionable nature.
Juan Garcia is a gifted aviator and proven leader in the Armed Forces poised for a bright future. Gene Seaman is a proven legislator and has had a meteoric rise from humble origins.
Yet, one would never know any of that from the AGENDISTIC ADS.
What to do...eh? It would seem that such tactics are the nature of the beast (politics). I will say again... "to respond negatively is to drop down below established standards. But not to respond at all is equally damaging."

Is he pro life or pro choice?
He has yet to personally answer that question.
Is he related to Richard Borchard?
How is he affiliated with Richard Borchard?
BTW, his campaign manager (Joe Hall) is a registered Republican.

Call the ads whatever you like,Cap,but thy're unfortunately part of what politics has become today, and they're not just confined to the Dist.32 race.My guess is,in the next three weeks you'll see a lot more negative campaigning in more races. As far as "established standards" go,I think you're giving Seaman a little too much credit. He's been down the mud slinging road before in past races,so he's certainly no stranger to negative campaigning, despite his righteous indignation at being maligned in this race.
The anti-Seaman ads you mentioned were bought by a third party, some group calling themselves "Citizens for Better Government" or something to that effect.I believe they're being paid for by a group led by the scourge of Kenedeno and Associates,Mikal Watts.I'm not sure why Watts has such an interest in the race, but I'm sure Team Kenedeno has a number of theories.
Sadly, though,it takes negative campaigning to raise interest in a particular race, and that's really more the voters' fault than it is the candidates. The Dist.32 race is probably the highest profile race in the area right now BECAUSE of the negative ads.Perhaps the only bright spot in all this is that some voters will finally realize what district they live in and who actually represents them. You hear people saying they're voting for Garcia or Seaman, but my guess is,many of them don't live in Dist.32..they live in Dist.33,and that's the Seed of Sol/McComb race, with Noyola running as the proverbial red herring in the race to fill Luna's unexpired term.

I haven't been writing for the last few days. It is not my handy-work EB.
Your name calling is childish and uncalled for.
Do you got WATT it takes to call me names in person?
Go ahead,..........
Make My Day.
Juan Garcia, you can't trust him.
Gene Seaman,.....
I wont vote for him either.
Do you like Rene Rodriguez, Ronnie Canales, Borchard or Shamsie?
There's your answer for Juan Garcia as well.
As far as the word scourge, Juan Garcia "and the like" would be the associates who are affiliated with the word.
We dont need to play dirty, we are the ones "cleaning house".

Statesmanship may be dead everywhere but in our minds. Politics may, by virture of the evolution of language, come to mean "slander and defamation in teh name of public service."
I became privy to the "third party" yesterday in a concersation with a highly placed friend. That somehow seems a bit bizzare, but not unexpected.
Still, I wonder who it was exactally that saw it fit to drag me into this debate here? Hummmm?
In anycase, here I be and there we are.

I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say Garcia "attacked" Seaman's wife.Did I miss something? Did Garcia physically attack her?
If you're referring to the ads that claim Seaman blamed his wife for the tax troubles with his condo..those ads weren't paid for, endorsed by,or sponsored by Garcia.And..the Austin-American Statesman did indeed quote Seaman has saying the mix-up was his wife's fault..not his,so if he's so upset about his wife being "attacked" in that manner,he should take it up with the newspaper..not shed crocodile tears over it on the campaign trail.
Garcia may or may not be a "statesman",but you'll never know if he is or isn't unless you send him to Austin. You already know Seaman isn't.He's been in the Lege for nine years and hasn't done anything of note. He's been a steady Republican vote for Tom Craddick,he helped get redistricting done..which ensures that the Repubs keep their majority in Austin for the forseeable future..he could've proven HIS statesmanship by taking the lead on Texas school funding and working with other Reps to get funding done instead of sitting on his hands through six special sessions, and when they finally DID pass a bill on school funding,it was garbage for the most part.
A vote against Seaman takes a vote out of Tom Craddick's pocket, and anybody who's follwed Craddick's antics and his relationship with Tom DeLay with an unjaudiced eye would have to say that's not a bad thing.

Out of respect for Jaime losing his dad,I'll hold my tongue, danno, but that's crap and you know it.
I've told you before, don't be dragging me into your squabbles with "Nelly Marie".I don't know the woman, the family, nor do I care to..and what I've posted here doesn't have anything to do with "mula"..it's the truth.
What has Seaman done of note?..besides vote in lockstep with Tom Craddick and the Repubs in the Lege? They were the ones who put redistricting ahead of school finance..not the Dems.It was the Repub controlled Lege that had to have six special sessions to get a flawed school finance bill passed, and Seaman was part of of the problem.
My guess is,you two don't like Garcia because you think he's involved with Mikal Watts..but you don't seem to mind that Seaman's in Craddick's pocket.I don't really care who Watts supports or doesn't,to me,he's just another lawyer trying to play power broker.Craddick and the Repubs in the Lege need to be reined in,and the best way to start doing that is by taking votes out of his hands..and electing Garcia means Craddick has one less vote to work with.

Juan Garcia is Mikal Watts puppet & related to the old clique from Robstown
Posted on October 16, 2006 at 03:20:34 AM by Liberating Thoughts
Juan is related to la clica (the clique ) or the old powerstructure in Nueces County and esp Robstown. Those that have had the control for too long. He brings nothing new to the table.
He has not earned his place. He is promising this (appointments etc) and that ... even an office in Taft. This is not advancement but this is the old "carrot on the stick" tactic.
Opportunists will bite. But not those that are in the long haul of the Defenzorian movement. John "Juan" can be a crackerjack knight for those that are still mystified by the patrician fascade; but not us. El corazon del pueblo remains pure to the higher cause of our kind: those in our station in life; entrenched in our spiritual ways. We do not sell out.
We will always be remainers to the turncoats of where they left their moral trajectory. We will always remind them of their failure to be loyal to the only movement that was and is dedicated to regaining our full humanity.
While Juan is our surfing and flying his jets and enjoying his perquisites: some of our people will be living in abandon cars; victimized by failing defibulators and indifference. Yet from the ashes we shall rise day by day and we will puff 'em in the eyes of those who doubt us and esp Los Vendidos will know that we never accepted a "frijol" (because we would not compromise the cause of regaining what is morally and spiritually ours).

"Those that have had the control for too long".
And the Repubs in the Legislature haven't?
"He brings nothing new to the table".
And Seaman does? What exactly has Seaman done for you in the nine years he's been in office? If you're a Republican,he's probably done alright by you,but if you're a Dem,or if you're concerned with school finance,he's been a big disappointment.
"He has not earned his place".
What's that supposed to mean? Who died and made YOU the arbiter of when someone's earned their place or not? Garcia met the election rules,he paid the filing fee,he got his place on the ballot.I'd say he's earned the right to run in an election as a taxpayer,a veteran and a resident of Dist.32.If you don't like him, don't vote for him,but you're in no position to say whether someone's "earned" the right to run for office or not.
"This is not advancement but this is the old "carrot on the stick" tactic".
Politicians have been using that approach for decades.Slimy Solomon Ortiz is a master of the tactic..promise you he'll do this or that if he's elected to yet ANOTHER term, then goes back to business as usual..skipping votes in the House and pointing fingers at other people when things go wrong in Washington..but,let me guess..it's ok when Slimy Sol does it..right? He's "gente"..he's "rasa"..right?
"But not those that are in the long haul of the Defenzorian movement".
Opportunists of any stripe will eventually "bite".That's what "opportunists" do,by definition..otherwise,they'd be "advocates".
"El corazon del pueblo remains pure to the higher cause of our kind: those in our station in life; entrenched in our spiritual ways".
Yeah yeah yeah..and the moon is in the seventh house and Saturn's ascending. If you in the "corazon del pueblo" are so "spiritual"..so "committed to the higher cause" why is there so much hispanic on hispanic crime in these "pueblos"? Burglaries, assaults, murders, gang violence..you've got them in your barrios, too, and they almost always involve hispanics commiting crimes against othe hispanics,so maybe you ought to be peddling this stuff in your own pueblo before you start expounding on it here.
" We will always be remainers to the turncoats of where they left their moral trajectory".
Try reminding these lowlife gangbanging thugs who prey on other hispanics about their "moral trajectory".
"While Juan is our surfing and flying his jets and enjoying his perquisites: some of our people will be living in abandon cars; victimized by failing defibulators and indifference".
Juan hasn't been elected to office yet,genius..he had nothing to do with any of this. And some of "your people" who live in abandoned cars do so because they're alcoholics and/or heavy drug users, and they'd rather live in an abandoned car than get help for their addictions.What?..we should be supporting them?..giving them state aid to buy more cheap booze or drugs? Not me,pal..they want to fry their brains on crack or die of kidney failure from drinking cheap rotgut booze, that's their business, but I'm not going to help them buy it.

Elwood Blues you write, "And some of "your people" who live in abandoned cars do so because they're alcoholics and/or heavy drug users, and they'd rather live in an abandoned car than get help for their addictions.What?..we should be supporting them?..giving them state aid to buy more cheap booze or drugs? There are families, believe it or not, who live in abandon cars in Nueces County. They have children, so on and so forth. Nothing funny. Nor do they deserve kicks, when they are already down. You have crossed the line of respect and decency in this board.
Last warning. Or if you choose, take your statements and post them in some social darwinist website. We consider them in poor taste. Immediately apologize. Pronto.
